"She sits alone in her cell. Her face, horribly disfigured, has a hole where a nose should be. The "monster" I was looking for—more repulsive than Baba Yaga!"
―Nikolai Orelov, upon seeing Khioniya Guseva, 1917.[src]-[m]
Guseva, killed by Nikolai Orelov

Khioniya Kuzminichna Guseva (c. 1881 – 15 November 1917) was a Russian townswoman and disciple of Grigori Rasputin.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In the mid-summer of 1914, Guseva went with Rasputin to his hometown of Pokrovskoye in Siberia. Upon meeting him outside the church in the town, Guseva suddenly charged at him and sliced open his stomach. Rasputin's intestines fell out, and he clutched at them. Kept alive by the shard of the Imperial Sceptre that he wore around his neck, Rasputin smiled at Gusevea and used the shard to force her to mutilate herself. Guseva's face became heavily deformed as a result, most notably with the loss of her nose.[1]

Guseva was subsequently imprisoned in the asylum at Krasnoyarsk until she was freed from her cell by the Assassin Nikolai Orelov on 15 November 1917. In exchange for telling him what had occurred during her attempt to assassinate Rasputin, she would get her freedom. Once she fulfilled her end of the deal, Guseva asked the Assassin to put her out of her misery, and so Orelov thrust his Hidden Blade through her heart.[1]
