History
Achaemenid Empire
During the 5th century BCE, a group that served as the precursors to the Assassins operated in Persia and counted Darius among its members.[1]
In 465 BCE, the proto-Assassin Darius assassinated the Persian King Xerxes I, who was supported by the proto-Templars,[2] which was the first usage of the Assassins' iconic Hidden Blade. This made Darius one of the most renowned Assassins in the Order.[3]
Afsharid dynasty
In 1747, Salah Bey, the captain of Nāder Shāh's guards assassinated Nāder Shāh in an attempt to retrieve his Piece of Eden, the Koh-i-Noor diamond. However, the Koh-i-Noor in the Shāh's possession was discovered to have ended up in the hands of Ahmad Shāh Durrānī, an Afghan chief. Salah thus planned to pursue him in order to acquire the Piece of Eden.[4]
