Paros Island, or simply Paros is a Greek island located in the Aegean Sea as part of the Kyklades. Paros Harbor, a former polis, is its capital.
History
Paros Island, as well as the island of Andros, had been under the control of Naxos Island.[1] However, at the time of the Peloponnesian War, Paros island was ruled by Silanos, a member of the Peloponnesian League branch of the Cult of Kosmos pretending to be an Athenian polemarch, after the untimely demise of the island's former leader, courtesy of the Cult. Under Silanos, Paros was even more belligerent towards its neighbor, Naxos, than before.[2]
In 429 BCE Naxos' oligarch, Phoenix, sent her admiral Euneas to talk peace with Paros, but his ship was ambushed and destroyed, and Euneas as well as some of the crew were taken prisoners, tortured to betray Naxos.
