"Amphipolis. This'll be a great empire one day."
Misthios Kassandra, around 422 BCE

Amphipolis (Ancient Greek: Ἀμφίπολις) is a municipality in Greece. In classical antiquity, it was a polis in Roots of an Empire, Makedonia.

During the Peloponnesian War the city played a strategic and economic role due to the nearby silver mines. Originally settled by the Athenians, the city was subsequently captured by Brasidas of Sparta in 424 BCE.[1]

History

In 422 BCE, the city was the site of a battle between the defending Spartans led by Brasidas against the Athenians led by Kleon, who was also a Sage of the Delian League branch of the Cult of Kosmos. During the battle, Brasidas was killed by Deimos, who in return was defeated by the Spartan misthios Kassandra. In the same battle Kassandra also defeated Kleon, drowning him in the water.[2]
