Biography

At the eve of the Boshin War, in late 1867, Issa met with Matsuo in Edo to discuss the recent events. Infuriated by Tokugawa Yoshinobu's show of weakness after his abdication as shōgun, Issa wanted to act. Specifically, he wanted to assassinate Harry Parkes, as he believed that without the support of the British Empire, the Emperor and his allies would be too weak to act. While Matsuo worried that the move would further weaken the Tokugawa cause, Issa convinced him otherwise. With the abdication of Yoshinobu, the Consul was now technically under the protection of the Emperor, who would take the blame for failing to protect the British dignitary.[1]

Infiltrating the consulate under the cover of the night, Issa dispatched several British soldiers, before being confronted by William Lloyd as the Templar rushed to save the Consul. During their fight, Issa succeeded in poisoning his opponent, but even in his weakened state, Lloyd was still a formidable swordsman. After Lloyd severed one of Issa's hands, the Assassin tried to play dead. However, Parkes, having heard rumors about the shinobis' uncanny ability to cheat death, ordered Lloyd to behead him. As Issa jumped on his feet, Parkes, having grabbed a gun, shot a bullet in his head.[1]
