The Hidden Ones of Alamut, also known as the Alamut Brotherhood,[1]was the guild of Hidden Ones based at the stronghold of Alamut in Persia during the 9th century. In the 9th century, they were led by the council of Mentor Rayhan, Eagle-Master Fuladh and Master Assassin Roshan, and were principal opponents of the Order of the Ancients based in the Abbasid capital of Baghdad.
History
The Hidden Ones of Alamut took its name from the castle, which began construction during the time of the Daylam ruler Wahsudan ibn Marzuban. The Hidden Ones continued the foundations laid by Wahsudan, seeking to make the fortress their main base while making use of the surrounding valley as its residence. They also formed an uneasy alliance with the Tahirids, who protected the grounds Alamut Castle was being built on.[2]
In the 860s, the Alamut Brotherhood came under threat when a Tahirid force led a surprised attack on the camp and the surrounding valley. This came as a result of governor Muhammad ibn Tahir making a deal with the Order in exchange for removing the Tahirids protection on the castle ground.[3]
