The Adorer of Thoth Tomb was a cave located in the northwest corner in the hills surrounding the pyramids of Giza.
Originally a tomb dating back to the Old Kingdom period, it was home to a cult of Baba and later turned a hideout for a group of bandits.[1]
History
In 48 BCE, bandits from the tomb captured Anta, a dog that served as a friend and a protector for the Memphisian siblings Apheru, Ngozi, and Neema. The children were forced to steal for the bandits in order to ensure their dog's safety and life. Ultimately, they targeted the Medjay Bayek of Siwa.
After some explanations, Bayek decided to help the children, and learned the location of the cave. He travelled to the tomb, where he deciphered an Old Kingdom stele and freed Anta, returning her back to the children.[2]
Trivia
- Baba was seen as a precursor to the Egyptian god Astennu, who was an attendant of Thoth. Baboons are also one of the sacred animals of Thoth who is sometimes depicted as one. This could explain the statue's presence in the Tomb.
