Bubares (died c. 429 BCE), also known as the Conspirator, was a Persian emissary and a member of the Order of Hunters branch of the Order of the Ancients during the 5th century BCE.

Biography

As a member of the Order of Hunters, Bubares was sent to Makedonia in Greece to hunt down the "Tainted Ones", including Darius and his son Natakas during the Peloponnesian War. Serving under the Magus Pactyas, Bubares was tasked with recruiting the Makedonian villagers and farmers into their cause and expand the Order's influence.[1] In order to do this, Bubares wandered around the countryside of Makedonia.[2]

His passing didn't go unnoticed, however, and as Bubares' meetings were relayed by a riddle and signaled by a burning pyre, the traces of one at a farm within the Unexplored Mount Pangeon leading Darius and the Spartan misthios Kassandra to Bubares' trail.[3] Ultimately they ambushed Bubares at the farm of Aiantides' brother, and Kassandra killed him.[4]

Trivia

  • Bubares (Βουβάρης) is an Ancient Greek name meaning "buffalo, ox".
  • Along with Timosa and Pactyas, Bubares is the only member of the Order of Hunters who has to be slain as part of the main quest of the DLC.
