Assassin's Creed is an award-winning video game series that currently consists of three main games, another coming out, four spin-off games, several short films, and a cancelled trilogy of novels. Each of the main games also spawned novelisations, adapting and adding to the story of their respective game. The entire franchise is developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft, with the exception of Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles and the mobile version of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which were developed by Gameloft, a company owned by Ubisoft. Between the four games, they have made appearances on the iPhone, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, PSP (PlayStation Portable), Xbox 360 and, in the future, the Wii U platform. The gameplay, while slightly varying from game to game, consists of a mixture of action and adventure, with a heavy emphasis on stealth and free-running.
