Tainaros

Tainaros was a location on the middle peninsula in the southern Peloponnese.

Belonging to Lakonia, the location was famous for the marble quarries producing red and black marble. In Greek mythology, it was also assumed to be one of the gateways to the Greek underworld, guarded by Cerberos and used by the legendary hero Herakles.[1]

In around 429 BCE, the place was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[2]
