Taharqa (unknown – 48 BCE), also known as The Scarab, was a grand planner of Sais and a steward of Letopolis. He was a member of the Order of the Ancients during the reign of Ptolemy XIII.

His family knew nothing of his activities; in fact, his father-in-law, Ghupa, actively spied against him for Harkhuf. They believed his important work was solely to rebuild Letopolis.

History

Encountering Bayek and Death

"The Order of Ancients will remember me as the bringer of waters and a builder of cities."
―Taharqa's final words to Bayek of Siwa[src]

Bayek came to Letopolis to seek Taharqa's help in tracking The Scarab, unaware of Taharqa's true nature. Together, Bayek and Taharqa defended Letopolis from bandits who used the frequent sandstorms as a cover to pillage the city, with Taharqa promising him the information he sought once they had been dealt with. Once the bandits were slain, Taharqa invited Bayek to join him and his family for a meal, where they would discuss The Scarab. However, Taharqa drugged Bayek's food, and he only realised Taharqa's true identity after noticing his scarab-shaped ring just before passing out.

Bayek awoke buried up to his neck in the desert, left for dead, surrounded by Taharqa's other victims. After escaping with the help of his steed and Senu and recovering his possessions - which had Taharqa offered as payment to the commander at Fort Nikiou - from a military camp nearby, Bayek returned to Letopolis to exact vengeance, assassinating Taharqa from above as he prayed in the temple.
