The reed boats are simple boats made of reeds bound together. They are one of the oldest transports known to humans.
They were widely used in Egypt during the 1st century BCE, by Egyptians themselves, but as much by Greeks and others.[1] In Memphis, reed boats were used by the residents to navigate through the canals of the city, with the crocodile hunter Thutmose being one of them.[2] In 47 BCE, during the Battle of the Nile, the pharaoh Ptolemy XIII attempted to escape using a reed boat, having realised his army was losing the fight. However, he perished when the boat came under attack by a float of crocodiles.[3]
