Odysseus was a legendary Greek king of Ithaka and the hero of Homer's epic poem, the Odyssey.[1] The husband of Penelope, he is well renowned as the hero who helped end the Trojan War.
Biography
As King of Ithaka, Odysseus owned a palace on the island, which he left to his son's supervision after setting out for Troy. It would not be until twenty years later when he would finally return to the island to be reunited with his family.[2]
Legacy
While in Ithaka in 431 BCE the Spartan misthios Kassandra encountered a woman named Odessa, who claimed descent from Odysseus.[3] In addtion, she also recovered an armor set that was said to have belonged to Odysseus, as well as Penelope's Shroud.[2]
At one point, Kassandra also recovered an armor set allegedly worn by Odysseus during his travels.[2]
