The Kreios

The Kreios was a pirate trireme haunting the northern shores of the island of Lesbos with lesser pirate vessels during the 5th century BCE.

History

During the Peloponnesian War, Kreios and his companions were engaged in battle with the Adrestia, commanded by the Spartan misthios Kassandra and captained by Barnabas. Kreios was subsequently defeated, and sunk, and Kassandra claimed the sail and finery of Kreios for her own.[1]

Behind the scenes

The ship is named after the Titan Crius, regarded by Hesiod as the grandfather of the goddess Hekate.
