Horsa, also known as Frown-Hoard (died 870s) was a Zealot of the Order of the Ancients who operated in England in the 9th century.
Biography
Nothing is known about Horsa's childhood. Seen as an stagnant, stoic giant, Horsa saw nothing but complete shock and scared looks from the public. With his actions, Horsa constructed a namesake for himself that the Order took notice and inducted him into the Zealots. Within the Order, Horsa built a reputation of reliability and was often seen to aid the Order member, The Lathe.[1]
In his rounds, Horsa patrolled the area along the roads of northern Oxenefordscire. It was during one such patrol that he was targeted and then killed by Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan, who was allied with the Hidden Ones. Afterwards, Eivor received a clue among Horsa's personal effects. The clue mentioned the title, The Lathe, and one needed to defeat the dice champion at the inn in Buckingham, in northern Oxenefordscire for further information of The Lathe's whereabouts.[1]
Trivia
- Like other Zealots, Horsa had unique fighting tactics and gadgets in his weaponry. Upon Eivor's instigation, Horsa wielded a Dane Axe, attacked with throwing spears, and defended himself with smoke bombs.
- For The Lathe, Horsa has the same clue as a chest at the Leah Villa Garrison.
- Most likely due to his size, Horsa travelled by foot rather than by horse like other Zealots, Hrothgar and Bercthun.
- In his cutscene in the Memory Corridor, Horsa's tone was neither defensive nor abrasive, but calm and appropriate. This seems to show that his title and reputation were just a mask he had to wear.
Behind the scenes
Horsa is a Germanic name derived from the element hros or hors meaning "horse". He shares his name with the mercenary Horsa who, along with his brother Hengist, led the invasion of Britain in the 5th century.
