Eshe's mummy

Eshe was the daughter of Khaliset who lived sometime prior the reign of Ptolemy XIII.

Biography

Eshe died under uncertain circumstances, and was mummified as well as placed within a sarcophagus. Afterwards, her mother grew obsessed with resurrecting her.[1]

At some point before 48 BCE, Khaliset begun gathering silica, a mysterious material, for the Order of the Ancients. But then she found a structure built under the pyramid of Khufu. There were strange symbols, as well as a pedestal within the chamber, and she realized she could activate the pedestal. Through the pedestal she learned of Those Who Came Before, and believed she'd found a way to resurrect her daughter.[2]

To this end, she caught people in the Giza and sacrificed them as offerings in the chamber, pleading with Osiris, the Lord of the Duat. She even attempted to replicate the symbols. Eshe remained dead, though.[2]

In 48 BCE, the Medjay Bayek of Siwa hunted down Khaliset, due to her being a member of the Order of the Ancients known as The Hyena. During his hunt, he discovered Eshe's remains, and realized what Khaliset had attempted. Still, he killed her, and with her dying breath, Khaliset begged to see her daughter again.[2]

Trivia

  • Eshe is a Swahili name that means 'life', related to the Arabic name Aisha, 'alive'.
