The Curse of the Pharaohs was a protacted incident in and around Thebes, Egypt circa 34 BCE.
The result of manipulations of an ancient relic in the care of Isidora, the God's Wife of Amun at the Temple of Karnak, the Curse saw the disembodied spirits of several past pharaohs – Akhenaten, Nefertiti, Tutankhamun, and Ramesses II – seemingly returned to the world of the living to exact vengeance upon the grave robbers and desecrators who had plagued the region for generations.
The Curse was eventually lifted by the Mentor of the Hidden Ones in Egypt, Bayek of Siwa, who after investigating the source of it, retrieved the relic and assassinated Isidora. The relic itself was then hidden away.
Trivia
- The name is a reference to the real-world curse of the pharaohs; an alleged curse placed upon those who disturb the mummies of ancient Egyptian pharaohs and denizens. Perhaps the most well known curse was that associated with the opening of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922; in the ten years that followed its opening 11 of those involved in the excavation died.
