Dmitry Vladimirovich Karakozov (1840 – 1866) was a Russian political activist who became known as the first revolutionary in the Russian Empire to make an attempt on the life of the Tsar.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Born into a landowning family within the Russian Empire, Dmitry was one of the young apprentices inducted by the British Assassin Simeon Price during the latter's time in Russia. In 1866, he made a failed attempt to assassinate Tsar Alexander II and was hanged for his crime, while his friends and accomplices were sent to either prison, hard labor, or exile in Siberia.[1]
