I wanted to ask you something. Which is... what's your name? This article title is conjecture. Although the article subject is canon, no official name for it has been given. |
The Assault on Cashelore took place between 879 and 881 in the early years of High King Flann Sinna's reign over Ireland. It was fought between the High King's Southern Army and the forces guarding Cashelore, a dual-ringfort castle in the Kingdom of Connacht.
Assault[edit | edit source]
After the High King's ally Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan gathered support from the local Meath kings,[1] she reported back to Flann Sinna at Knockfree, who thanked her for her support.[2] Together with Flann and her cousin once-removed, King Bárid mac Ímair of Dublin, Eivor discussed the war plans and agreed to infiltrate and open the gates from the inside. Within the first ringfort, she opened the gates while Flann, Bárid, and their forces quickly flooded the first ringfort. After taking over the ringfort, Eivor and Flann broke open the second ringfort's gates and managed to defeat Cashelore's forces.[3]
Aftermath[edit | edit source]
After a night of celebration,[3] the victory was short-lived after Flann's soldiers were poisoned. After interrogating a suspect, the man pointed to Bárid as the mastermind behind the poison. However, Eivor and druidic poetess Ciara ingen Medba realized someone framed her cousin and went to investigate. In the end, they discovered it was the Children of Danu while Eivor acquired a cure, which was created by Ciara's friend and druidic priestess, Deirdre Na Linni.[4]
