The Roots of an Empire is the easternmost region of Makedonia, Greece. Of special note is the settlement of Amphipolis, as well as the memorial site of Xerxes' Sacrifice of the Nine.

The Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the region around 422 BCE, when she participated in the Battle of Amphipolis.[1]
