An animated Assassin's Creed television series is currently being developed by Ubisoft Film & Television.[1] Intended for distribution through on Netflix,[2] a release date has not been announced. The series would have originally featured an all-new story from Castlevania producer Adi Shankar[3] that would share the same universe as other media in the franchise,[4] but Shankar later revealed in October 2024 that he was no longer attached to the series.[5]

In November 2016, it was announced that Ubisoft and Netflix started talks regarding how to develop an Assassin's Creed series.[6] By March 2017, Assassin's Creed head of content Aymar Azaizia confirmed that an Assassin's Creed television series was being developed and teased it at PAX East 2017.[7][8] On 5 July, producer Adi Shankar announced a partnership with Ubisoft on his Facebook page and revealed that he was working on "an original story" Assassin's Creed anime series.[3] Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot resumed discussions with Netflix as a possible network for the series to air on.[9]

The television series was reportedly still in development in June 2020, with Netflix officially confirmed as the distributor and airing network.[2] In October, news on the project resurfaced stating that it was not cancelled. Two other Netflix series were also announced, one anime, and the other live-action.[1] In an April 2021 Eurogamer interview with Aymar Azaïzia, he reconfirmed the series and stated that it was being made by the team behind the television series Rabbids Invasion and the upcoming Far Cry animated television series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix also being produced by Shankar. The Far Cry series was taking precedence, though, leaving the Assassin's Creed series on hold.[10]

In March 2022, Shankar again reiterated that Captain Laserhawk was his main Ubisoft-based focus and only when that was finished and had aired would he start work on the Assassin's Creed series. He added that turning video games into animated series for streaming platforms had become his business model and he would reap the benefits of such a thing.[11] However, in October 2024, he suddenly revealed in a tweeted reply that he was no longer working on the project, elaborating that his story idea of having the Templars defeat the Assassins in their covert struggle had been adapted from its pitch to eventually become the plot of Captain Laserhawk and the Assassin's Creed elements within it.[5]
