Javert was a St. Bernard dog and companion animal to both the British Assassin Simeon Price and the then-former Austrian Templar Countess Konstanze von Visler.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 1873, an adult Javert appeared to both Simeon and Konstanze one day at their cabin in the Alps. They adopted him and began a new life together over the next three years away from the Assassins' and Templars' eyes, with Javert gradually growing old but still able to bark at trespassers.[1] In September 1876, Javert joined Simeon in fleeing the cabin after the Assassin discovered Konstanze had betrayed him and the Zurich Brotherhood of Assassins in her first mission for the Assassins,[2] though Simeon did not elaborate to his allies later about Javert's existence or whereabouts.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Javert is likely named for the fictional police detective Javert in the French author Victor Hugo's 1862 novel Les Misérables, which would have been published only a decade prior to Simeon and Konstanze adopting him.
