- "Ladies and gentleman! Come witness the epic story of Iolaos and how he helped Herakles defeat the Hydra!"
- ―A child in Chalkis City[src]
Iolaos was the nephew of the legendary Greek hero Herakles.
Biography[edit | edit source]
When Herakles faced the Lernaean Hydra, Iolaos helped him defeat the monster by cauterizing each neck Herakles cut.[1]
Influence[edit | edit source]
By the time of the Peloponnesian War, Iolaos was still remembered. When the amphitheater of Chalkis City in Euboea had a play featuring him, he was used by the children marketing the show along with Herakles.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Historically, the creator of the Garden of Kynosarges, Didymos, was said to have built a temple in honor of the hero Herakles, his mother Alkmene and Iolaos.
