Al-Ahmar Mountain (Arabic: الجبل الأحمر; transliterated Jabal al-Ahmar, lit. "Red Mountain")[1] is a sandstone necropolis in Hegra, north of the Tomb of Hayyan ibn Kuza. In the 860s, a group of robbers occupied it while they abused local wildlife and generally terrorized the al-Ula Valley. Passing through the area, the Alamut Hidden One Basim ibn Ishaq found the body of a man whom the robbers had fatally tortured for witnessing their crimes. Inspecting it, Basim found a note, in which the man's dying wish was that the reader would infiltrate the camp and free the captive animals to protect them from further injuries.[2] While acting on the posthumous request, Basim also recovered a clue in the camp to one of the robbers' hidden caches.[3]
