Battle of Forlì is one of two downloadable content extensions for Assassin's Creed II. It comprises the first of the two "corrupted memories" of the Animus (DNA sequence 12), and was released 28 January 2010, which retailed for 320MS points on Xbox Live and $3.99/€3.99/£3.19 on the Playstation Network. It involved Niccolò Machiavelli and Caterina Sforza fighting alongside Ezio to protect a Piece of Eden from the Orsi brothers and the Templars. It contains six new missions, including a "Special Memory" of which Ezio can use the Flying Machine once more. The title suggests that the memory took place in the poorly exploited (in the main game) Forlì.

The Battle of Forlì begins as the player loads the story mode of Assassin's Creed II. Ezio is in a room with Niccolò Machiavelli, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Mario Auditore marvelling at the Piece of Eden they recovered in the previous DNA sequence. After discovering that it has great power, the group decides to seal it away in the citadel in Forlì. They dispatch Ezio to the city to consult the ruler, Caterina Sforza, but as Ezio arrives, the city is occupied by the Orsi brothers, who are working for the Templars. Ezio infiltrates the city and escorts Caterina and her bodyguards to the citadel, but it is breached. Ezio helps to stop the breach, and is successful. However, the Orsi brothers down below taunt Caterina with threats of killing her two captured children. She sends Ezio to rescue her children, and he does so, but leaves the Piece of Eden with her. While Ezio rescues the children, he assassinates one of the Orsi brothers, then returns to the citadel. Caterina and Machiavelli inform him here that the captured children were just a ploy to lead Ezio away, and with him gone, the remaining Orsi brother stole the Piece of Eden from the citadel. Ezio tracks down, chases, and kills the remaining Orsi brother, but Ezio is stabbed near-fatally while doing so. As he passes out, the retrieved Piece of Eden rolls away from him, and is picked up by a black-robed figure with a missing finger. Ezio awakens in Caterina's care, but quickly remembers that the Piece of Eden was stolen. Caterina advises him to check the churches, as his description sounds like that of a monk. Ezio is eventually led to a monk who is able to give him the name of the thief: Friar Savonarola, who currently rules Florence. The DLC ends there, as the following memory data remains corrupted.

This article is about the downloadable content. You may be looking for the event.

The Battle of Forlì is the first of two downloadable content (DLC) packs available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Assassin's Creed II, released on 28 January 2010. The DLC is automatically included in the Windows version of Assassin's Creed II, released in March 2010, as well as all subsequent re-releases of the game.

The DLC features one of the two "corrupted sequences" of Ezio Auditore's memories, which comprises six main memories as well as a "special memory" that allows the use of Leonardo da Vinci's Flying Machine over the city of Forlì. Taking place after Sequence 11, the storyline revolves around the titular battle, in which Ezio and his allies must defend Forlì from a mercenary army hired by the Templars to obtain a map of the locations of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's Codex pages.

Plot[edit | edit source]

Main article: Battle of Forlì

In 1488, shortly after recovering the Apple of Eden from Rodrigo Borgia in Venice, Ezio meets with Niccolò Machiavelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and Mario Auditore to study the artifact and decide what to do with it. After discovering the great power it possesses, the group decide to seal it away in the citadel in Forlì, which is held by one of their allies, Caterina Sforza.

Ezio with Caterina and Niccolò

Ezio and Niccolò set off for the city to speak with Caterina, but shortly after their arrival, they discover that the city has been occupied by an army of mercenaries led by the Orsi brothers, Checco and Ludovico. The Orsi have been hired by the Templars to obtain a map to the locations of Altaïr's Codex pages made by Caterina's late husband, which Rodrigo believes can help him find "the Vault".

Ezio infiltrates the citadel and escorts Caterina and her bodyguards into the safety of the Rocca di Ravaldino, in order to try and retake the city. Though Caterina's forces successfully reclaim the citadel, the Orsi brothers reveal that they have kidnapped two of Caterina's children, whom Ezio promptly volunteers to rescue, leaving the Apple behind to be guarded by Caterina and Niccolò.

Ezio assassinating Ludovico

Upon freeing both children and assassinating Ludovico, Ezio returns to the citadel, only to be informed that Checco has used the kidnapping as a distraction to launch another attack and steal the Apple. Ezio tracks down and kills Checco, but is stabbed near-fatally in the process. As Ezio passes out, the Apple rolls away from him and is picked up by a black-robed figure with a missing finger.

Ezio later awakens in Caterina's care, but quickly remembers that he needs to find the man who took the Apple. Caterina advises him to check the churches, as his description of the man sounded like one of the monks from the nearby countryside. She also gives Ezio her late husband's map to help him find the Codex pages and wishes him good luck on his journey. After questioning several monks, Ezio eventually learns the identity of the thief: Girolamo Savonarola, a friar who studied in Florence.
