The Messenger[1] was a title attributed to a number of unidentified Isu who recorded various reports following the Great Catastrophe and buried them within vaults located throughout Egypt.[2] These messages were designated for Layla Hassan,[1] who overheard them in 2017 when reliving the Medjay Bayek's genetic memories of his time exploring the vaults,[2] though he was unaware they were being played at the time.[1] Layla later documented these messages in a folder titled "The Empirical Truth" on her laptop.[2] In 2020, while reliving the memories of the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir, Layla reflected on what she remembered of the Messengers' words and their possible meanings to the Assassin Rebecca Crane.[1]

These messengers were dubbed, in chronological order:

In addition, each of their messages was prefaced by a 'Pedestal messenger', that stated the segment's number and date.
