Wigbert was an Anglo-Saxon boy from Wincestre, who indirectly served as a spy and thief for the Order of the Ancients member Hilda, also known as The Quill. He was the brother of Aelwyn, who worked as his partner-in-crime for The Quill.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Wigbert's childhood is unknown aside from the fact he was orphaned at a young age. When his sister Aelwyn began working for The Quill, she convinced Wigbert to join her. Together, the siblings gathered knowledge on The Quill's behalf by either stealing or spying all around Wincestre.[1]

In 877, Wigbert and Aelwyn were caught setting a haystack aflame and were chased by Anglo-Saxon soldiers, as well as Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan, who sought to question them about The Quill. After Eivor found Aelwyn, Wigbert arrived and was shocked to see the Viking in front of him, taking a step back. Moments later, two thugs working for The Quill arrived to demand an item the children had stolen; Eivor dealt with them and, in gratitude, Wigbert and Aelwyn gave her a key to the city's sewers, which served as The Quill's hideout.[1]

After Eivor assassinated The Quill, Wigbert decided he wanted to do something good in life and joined the church's teachings at the Wincestre Seminary. At some point, he encountered Eivor again and told her that Aelwyn had gone into hiding. He also explained that his sister had forced him to work for The Quill in the first place, and that he refused to be drawn into that type of life again, wishing to learn things instead.[2]
