Western Fortification

The Western Fortification was a large Anglo-Saxon fortification along the River Exe in the western part of the region, north of Yeardley Farm. It was guarded by a significant military force.

In the 9th century, it was raided multiple times by the Vikings Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan, Vagn, and her longship crew.^[1]
