The Sleeping Jotun

The Sleeping Jotun was a mountain top and a meditation area in Snotinghamscire, England.
History[edit | edit source]
In 876, the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir followed Hemthorpe's seer towards the path of The Sleeping Jotun to seek outside counsel on the shire's future. Reaching its base, the seer advised Eivor to climb to the top and drink its waters as she prepared to sacrifice the sheep below. As she climbed to the top, Eivor sat down and meditated. During her meditation, she drank the water there and started to envision Hemming Jarl in front of her. The spirit of Hemming came upon Eivor and was ambivalent on answering her questions.[1]
After their brief discussion, Eivor and the apparition of Hemming fought each other, which led to Eivor defeating the draugr. Upon his defeat, Hemming affirmed Eivor of her decision in his successor as he stated whatever choice she made would be good. Hemming soon left to meet the All-Father and venture towards Valhalla as Eivor awoke later from her vision.[1] From her travels, Eivor also found the viewpoint at the top of The Sleeping Jotun.[2]
Behind the Scenes[edit | edit source]
The word, "Jotun," traces back to the realm of Jötunheimr, home of the blue giants, the Jötnar.
