Prague Castle is a castle complex in Prague. Now the official office for the President of the Czech Republic, it was previously used as the seat of power for kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman emperors, and presidents of Czechoslovakia.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
Around 1592, Holy Roman emperor Rudolf II hired alchemist Edward Kelley and gave him a workshop in Prague Castle for him to continue his experiments. Kelley's daughter, Elizabeth Jane Weston, would only be allowed out of the house when her father would take her to visit Prague Castle, for the streets were unsafe at the time, with rumors of a killer stalking around Prague even during daytime. On her tenth birthday, Elizabeth's gift was her first trip to the workshop.[2]
