Gwilim
Gwilim was a bandit who operated at Thieves' Warren in Glowecestrescire, England.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Not much is known about Gwilim, however Gwilim was hired to masquerade as a fellow monk under the plan to get rid of Tewdwr as successor to the shire's ealdorman, Cynon.[1]
In 876, Gwilim travelled Glowecestre under the guise of a fellow Christian monk and joined in the festivities along Cynon, Tewdwr, and the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir. After Cynon left the group and Eivor and Tewdwr were left to talk, Gwilim gave both Eivor and Tewdwr a stronger drink within their discussion. From this drink, Eivor and Tewdwr became woozy and uncoordinated and later dropped unconscious at Tewdwr's cottage.[2]
By his hand, Gwilim made sure that Eivor woke up, only to be unjustly framed for the apparent crime of murder of Tewdwr and his guards.[3] After meeting and discussing with Modron about Halewyn's information, Gwilim's location was determined by Eivor, who was told that Cudd Lladron is the Welsh name for Thieves' Warren. Upon her arrival, Gwilim was seen by Eivor as he was standing over Tewdwr and two other prisoners.[1]
Under Eivor's threat, Gwilim admitted to being to be hired to drug and kill Tewdwr under Cynon's orders. However, Gwilim disclosed to keep Tewdwr alive for more ransom money but ultimately stated that Tewdwr was good company. Yet, as Tewdwr was still injured, Gwilim was pushed out of the way as Eivor carried Tewdwr out of the stronghold.[1]
