Burial Mounds

The Burial Mounds were a burial site outside Melun, Melunois for the Elgring Clan's dead.
History[edit | edit source]
In the late 9th century, jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan visited the burial mounds and met with Viking Jarl Sigfred, after Toka Sinricsdottir and Eivor arrived in Melun. At the burial mounds, Sigfred paid his respect to his late brother and Toka's father, Sinric. Sigfred met with Eivor and discussed the Frankish problem. Angered, Sigfred let out his rage against the Franks for their disrespect and cowardice against Sinric. Nevertheless, Eivor agreed to help Sigfred and his warriors against the Franks and soon, they left to further discuss their plans.[1]
After the siege finished with a truce between Sigfred and King Charles the Fat,[2] the Vikings went back to Melun to celebrate. However, Sigfred was displeased and wanted more Frankish deaths. After lashing out at Eivor, who tried to calm him by saying that more Frankish bloodshed would jeopardize the truce, he left the gathering to fume alone. Chasing down Sigfred, Eivor found the jarl at the mounds once more. At Sinric's grave, Sigfred questioned the Viking way and wanted to end the truce as Eivor again restated that such action would not salve his pain. Sigfred responded with challenging Eivor to a holmgang, but as their conversation continued, Sigfred found himself at the end of the life he knew and relinquished his title. Afterwards, Toka came in search of her uncle and realized that the leadership was now in her hands.[3]
