Borghild, known as the Aleswife's Bane was a Norse woman who lived in Picheringa in Eurvicscire during the 9th century.
Noted for her flyting duels that involved both drinking and flyting at the same time, Borghild was challenged to a duel by the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir in the 870s during her visit to the village. Borghild lost the duel and fulfiled the wager placed by Eivor.[1]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Borghild shares the same name as the wife of the hero Sigmund from the Völsunga saga. Her name is a combination of the words "borg" meaning protection and "hild" meaning battle.
