The Abstergo Foundation Rehabilitation Center, commonly referred to as the Abstergo Foundation, is a subsidiary company of Abstergo Industries based in Madrid, Spain which, like its parent company, operates as a front for the Templar Order.

Headed up by Dr. Sofia Rikkin, who believed she was chasing a scientific breakthrough, the Foundation held imprisoned a number of subjects who were forced into the Animus in order to explore their genetic memories—many of whom were either descended from, or active members of, the Assassin Order.

Ostensibly the Foundation's goal was to find a genetic "cure to violence" by locating a specific Apple of Eden, the project actually formed part of a decades long plot by Alan Rikkin to unleash the powers of the relic to suppress the free will of mankind altogether.

History

The Abstergo Foundation building was constructed around and upon a 12th century chapel.[1]

On 22 October 2016, Callum Lynch, a descendant of the 15th century Spanish Assassin Aguilar de Nerha, was brought to the facility by Sofia Rikkin and placed in their Animus. After several sessions in the Animus, the Templars succeeded in locating Aguilar's Apple of Eden, but were forced to flee the facility when its inmates organized a revolt and overcame the guards.[2]
