Artemis is a Greek goddess of the hunt, wilderness, virginity, and the Moon. She is the daughter of Zeus and Leto, and the twin sister of Apollo. Her Roman counterpart was Diana. Artemis is also regarded as one of the Twelve Olympians, the major deities of the Greek pantheon.
By 431 BCE, a large statue of Artemis was raised on the island of Mykonos. [1]
During the 5th century BCE, a cult devoted to Artemis rose, called the Daughters of Artemis.[1]
