Thera, modern Santorini, is a Greek volcanic island in the southern Aegean Sea.

Home to a thriving and far-ahead of its time minoan civilization which was destroyed by a cataclysmic volcanic eruption, Thera is believed by some historians to be the inspiration for the legend of Atlantis.
