"Get the fuck off my streets."--The Monger
The Monger (died 431 BCE) was a member of the Cult of Kosmos, operating under the Peloponnesian League branch in Korinth, Greece, during the Peloponnesian War.
He was eventually hunted down and killed by the Spartan misthios Kassandra in her quest to destroy the Cult.
Character Description
One did not need to see The Monger in the streets of Korinth to feel him there. His brutes had taken over. The city, once the richest and most prosperous port in all the Greek world, now wallowed in corruption. The Cult would use this thug, with a small mind and a firm grip, to do their bidding.
Biography
Sometime in or before 431 BCE, the Monger and his thugs had taken over the city of Korinth. The city that was once the richest and most prosperous port in Greece had been swallowed by corruption. While looking dor Myrrine, Kassandra came across Anthousa, a haterae who needed help in getting rid of The Monger. He, along with the Cult's help, employed a small army and took over the land of Korinth and has ruled over it with an iron fist ever since. He would use the army of thugs he hired to mug and shake people down for their money, even going after and killing the haterae working in the streets, including Damalis and Erinna. The Monger was also known to smuggle weapons into the port of Korinth and store them in a warehouse in the Port of Lechaion where they would evntually be sold to soldiers participating in the war. It was also revealed that The Monger had come into contact with Myrrine, who was causing rouble in The Monger's operation of taking over Korinth. After helping the haterae and destroying the warehouse full of weapons, Kassandra confronted The Monger either at the stadium in front of the main town on the advice of Anthousa, or in an isolated cave on the advice of Brasidas. either way, The Monger's tyrannical rule had come to an end in Korinth.
Trivia
- In the novel the Monger is killed in his warehouse by Kassandra and Brasidas with the help Roxana and Erinna, two of Anthousa's hetaerae who has been captured. His remains are then displayed publicly by Kassandra and Anthousa at the theatre against Brasidas's wishes.
