- "I'm not interested in drachmae. The only currency I accept is orichalcum."
- ―Sargon to Kassandra, c. 431 BCE
Sargon was a Greek merchant[1] who lived during the time of the Peloponnesian War. He entrusted a group of smugglers led by Iola to smuggle a bear for him. Unfortunately, their ship was beached, and the bear escaped.[2]
At some point in 431 BCE he made the acquaintance of the Spartan misthios Kassandra, and explained to her how he did business. Kassandra would later come to do business with Sargon, exchanging orichalcum (his preferred currency) for rare weapons and armor.
