The Petrified Islands is a name used for the group of Greek islands of Lesbos and Chios, located in the northeastern Aegean Sea.

It was home to the poet Sappho, and contained the city of Mytilene, which rebelled against the Athenians at one point, resulting in its subjugation.[1]

Deciduous forests adorn these islands, and one in particular was held in the time of the Peloponnesian War to have been mystical. Its economy during that era specialized in wine-making.[1]
