Brother Maxwell, also known as the "Mad monk", was an Anglo-Saxon monk who visited the town of Ravensthorpe in England during the late 9th century. He was also the uncle of Braun.

Biography[edit | edit source]

During the Oskoreia festival in Ravensthorpe, Maxwell approached the Raven Clan's jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir and preached about how the Wild Hunt would come to ravage Ravensthorpe. He placed pots of smoking herbs around the settlement where he saw the fabric of reality was weak and said one could see "threats" before they attacked the town by inhaling the herb mixture.[1]

During the festivities, Eivor was informed that Maxwell had brought one of his pots into the woods. Horrfied that he would burn down the forest, she ran to his location. On arriving, the monk told Eivor that she had to face her own worst enemy within the nether realm, but quickly disappeared after.[1]

After Eivor had partaken in the activities of the festival, she returned to Maxwell and informed him that there would be no fight against the Wild Hunt. Horrified at these news, the monk shouted that they were not out of the woods yet and storm started to gather over Ravensthorpe. The citizens were horrified that the Wild Hunt would come for them but Eivor calmed them and the storm subsided. Looking back at Maxwell, she saw that he had already left and looking to the other side she saw him, for a split second being was surrounded by the ghosts of fallen warriors. Maxwell then continued walking after giving Eivor a nod of approval and left Ravensthorpe.[1]
