Lagos the Archon (died c. 428 BCE) was a Greek politician during the 5th century BCE and a member of the Peloponnesian League branch of the Cult of Kosmos active in Arkadia during the Peloponnesian War.
Biography
An Arcadian farm owner, Lagos rose to become the leader of the region during the 5th century BCE, his wife Philonoe and his son Niloxenos beside him while he kept the 'breadbasket of Peloponnese' full.[1]
When the soldiers serving under the Spartan general Brasidas were starving, Lagos managed to get supplies to them. Whether their friendship began before or after this incident is unknown, but this deed made enough of an impression on Brasidas that he reminisced about it years later during the Peloponnesian War.[2] The two kept in contact throughout the years and grew close, with Brasidas even referring to Lagos as a "dear friend."[3]
Unlike other cultists, Lagos joined them unwillingly. The Cult wanted control of Arkadia, so they asked Lagos if he would join, but when he refused, The Cult kidnapped his wife and son, forcing him to work under their thumb. Luckily, the misthios Kassandra came to his family's rescue.[4]
While Brasidas wanted Kassandra to spare Lagos knowing he was blackmailed into doing the Cult's bidding, Myrrine wanted Kassandra to kill him thinking that he deserved to die because he was a Cultist, no matter the circumstance.[1]
Trivia
- Lagos is a name derived from the Greek word λαγῶς (lagos) meaning 'hare', and colloquially 'coward'.
- In-game if Kassandra killed the Monger in the Sacred Cave as Brasidas requested, Lagos offers up evidence on the Peloponnesian League's Sage and quits to join his family in safety. However, if she killed the Monger at the theater, Lagos will believe she is luring him to a public execution and fight her to the death instead.
- In the novel however, Lagos is killed by Myrrine and is the 36th of the 42 Cultists to die.
