Ketos Shipwreck

The Ketos Shipwreck was the shipwreck of the pirate ship, Shark's Tooth, which sank off the southeastern coast of the Hill of the Sacred War in 431 BCE.
History
The Shark's Tooth was the ship of the pirate Gelon though she would claim that piracy was only a "part-time hobby". In 431 BCE, Gelon sought out the Pythia for intelligence on popular locales of pilgrims which she hoped to threaten. While she ventured up Grand Mount Parnassos alone, her beloved lieutenant, Gyke, took the Shark's Tooth and the rest of its crew fishing and treasure hunting at a cove off the southeastern coast of the Hill of Sacred War. There, they were sunk by nearby soldiers. The sharks in the waters then finished off the remaining crew.[1]
At Gelon's request, the Spartan misthios Kassandra found the shipwreck and looted its treasures, among them a bracelet belonging to Gelon. She then returned to the former captain bearing the tragic news.[1]
Trivia
- The name of the shipwreck aludes to the mythical sea monster Ketos, to whom Andromeda was about to be sacrificed when the legendary hero Perseus intervened. [citation needed]
