Hermippos (died 431 BCE) was a member of the Cult of Kosmos, operating under the Eyes of Kosmos branch in Athens, Greece during the 5th century BCE.
Biography
Kassandra came across Sokrates arguing with a playwright named Aristophanes who was angry at Hermippos for badmouthing Perikles at one of his plays. After the discussion, Aristophanes tracked Kassandra to find Hermippos at his residence since he was nowhere to be found. At the residence, Kassandra found a cultist mask indicating that Hermippos' identity a member of the Cult of Kosmos. [citation needed]
Kassandra then tracked down Hermippos through a letter he obtained at his residence and killed him, putting an end to his spying and badmouthing. [citation needed]
Trivia
- In the novel Hermippos dies at sea, drowning alongside three other cultists, their ship cleaved by the Adrestia as Kassandra flees Athens for Argolis in search of Hippokrates just after he attempted to poison her at Perikles's Symposium.
