Gamal Sabry was a member of the Egyptian Brotherhood of Assassins who operated in Cairo in the mid-19th century, alongside his wife Safiya El-Nadi. Gamal also operated a book cart, which he noted was "an excellent way for an Assassin to monitor the streets", though he was quite passionate about books.[1]
Biography
Gamal and Safiya housed British Brotherhood member Pierrette Arnaud during her time in Cairo, eventually considering her part of the family.[2]
On 1 November 1869, Gamal noticed Pierrette and Safiya were being listened to by a man in an European dress, and placed a copy of Ibrahim Hakkı Erzurumi's Book of Gnosis on a table facing them, their agreed symbol for danger. While Safiya went to deal with the Templar lackey, Gamal created a diversion, having his well-trained donkey start braying to draw the attention of all that were around.[1]
