Ake was a Norse resident of Ravensthorpe during the 9th century.
Biography
Together with Thyra, Braun, and Alwin, Ake lived at the Revellers' Hut in Ravensthorpe.[1]
Ake often helped with organizing the seasonal festivals at Ravensthorpe, including Yule and Ēostre. During the Ēostre festival, he met with Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir near the northeastern border of Ravensthorpe to help complete a ritual requested by Alvis to ward off evil spirits. After lighting several fires around Ravensthorpe, Ake and Eivor defeated several animal spirits in combat.[2]
During the Sigrblot festival, Ake felt the need to defend his honor and decided to challenge Eivor to a game of flyting, which she won.[3]
For the Oskoreia festival, Ake set up a horse-racing course where participants had to race the clock, shoot targets whilst mounted, and vault over obstacles. He was amazed at Eivor's performance during the race, winning the gold medal with ease.[4]
Behind the scenes
The name Ake is Nordic in origin, derived from the Old Norse name Áki, which in turn was based on the Proto-Norse "*ᚨᚾᚢᛉ", meaning "ancestor".
