Æthelbald or Aethelbald of Mercia (died 757) was King of Mercia who reigned from 716 to 757.
Biography
In 733, in a charter written to Bishop Ealdwulf, Æthelbald praised the endurance of writing. He recognized that the written word would be a valuable record for all things.[1]
Legacy
Following his death, Æthelbald was buried in an abbey in the town of Repton.[2]
