Thebes is a city within the Cursed Land of Oedipous region of Boeotia, Greece, and the historical capital of Boeotia.

In the 5th century BCE, Thebes was among the most powerful Greek city-states, rivaled only by Athens and Sparta. Prior to the Peloponnesian War, it was the home of the Legendary Seven Warriors.[1]

  • In Greek mythology, Thebes was founded by the Phoenician hero Cadmus after he failed to bring his sister Europa back to Tyre. The city was also reputedly the birthplace of Herakles, as well as the home of the blind oracle Tiresias, as well as Oedipus and his family, including Antigone, Eteocles and Polynices
