The shrine

The Statue of Fury Demeter was a monument used as a place of worship located on a hill within the Forest of Soron in Arkadia, Greece.

Dedicated to Demeter, the Greek goddess of crops and fertility, in her guise as a Fury, the monument embodied the tale of how the god Poseidon chased the goddess. To avoid him, Demeter turned into a mare, but Poseidon followed suit, and they produced the legendary horse Areion.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra visited the location.[1]
