Rhenea is a small island off the coast of Delos, Greece.
During the 5th century BCE Rhenea served as the necropolis for Delos. In 426 BCE it was decreed that births and deaths were forbidden on the sacred island of the god Apollo.[1]
Around the time of the Peloponnesian War the Spartan misthios Kassandra visited the island. She also visited Mykonos, where she met Kyra; Kyra mentioned how on Delos, women about to give birth were shipped over to Mykonos, and this occasionally resulted in what she called 'boat babies'.[2]
