Neon was an Athenian general who lived during the 5th century BCE, and participated in the Peloponnesian War. He was a contemporary and a peer of general Demosthenes.

Among the various Athenian generals, Neon held the opinion that Spartans were "mindless brutes."^[1]

Trivia

The name Neon is derived from the Greek word νέος (néos), meaning 'new, fresh, young'.
